Noble and elegant
Syracuse is one of the most noble and elegant cities in the entire Mediterranean Sea. It is rich in charm, history and an enviable natural landscape.
It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005, recognizing its beauty stemming from its distinguished history and culture. It was the largest Greek city of antiquity, on par with Athens. A true cultural center, it was the birthplace of great people, such as the scientist Archimedes, and where Plato loved to spend much of his time.
Today the city is divided into two different nuclei: the urban part of the city and Ortigia.
The latter is a beautiful historical islet connected to the city, a destination for increasingly wealthy tourists. Within its one-square-kilometer area, it is possible to admire architectural beauty from different historical periods: from the earliest prehistoric settlements, to the Baroque World Heritage Site, passing through the numerous remains of the Greek Byzantine and Norman periods.
